Just reflecting on the above as the brouhaha of a new academic year settles a bit . . .
We do these sessions at a very basic level but find this is absolutely necessary as
most students come to us without any kind of background in searching information
sources.
We are lucky in Care Sciences in that the Faculty has made considerable
commitment to this activity over the years. We hope this creates a win-win loop . . .
The sessions are costly in terms of staff time, but we find that nothing beats the
personal touch! People seem to learn so much more when interacting with something
they can see as being beneficial to them personally . . .
Our intention is to try to arrange access to bigger induction groups - so we can talk to more
students at once - and simultaneously promote smaller follow-on PC sessions -
where we are able to demonstrate more specific literature searches . . .
Makes sense? Maybe not! - What do you think?
